VIOLENCE

Violence can stem from domestic situations, peer violence, and within housing agencies trying to help these kids.

Because homeless queer youth is such a vulnerable population, many of them find themselves in sex work which exposes them to sexual assault and rape.

Transgender youth will likely face the most violence based on prejudice and discrimination (Meyer, 2015).  A reason for this because of the prejudice the face when being separated institutionally, such as in a shelter, that separates folks based on birth sex rather than gender identity.

It is important to identify that queer homeless youth of color face the depth of hate crimes.

-“LGBT youth of color are similarly helped less by hate crime laws than white gay males, given that the former experience forms of violence that often cannot be easily classified as homophobic,” (Meyer 2015).-
